For decades, moving from the UK to Tenerife meant finding a flat and registering. Since the end of the Brexit transition, UK citizens are non-EU nationals in Spain, and the order of things has changed.
Long-time residents who lived here before 2021 are covered by the Withdrawal Agreement. Their status appears on a TIE that mentions it, and those who still hold only the old green certificate can exchange it. On the island, TIE issue is listed at the Santa Cruz police office, not at the Comisaría Sur in Adeje.
New arrivals need a visa before the move: non-lucrative residence for retirees living on their own means, a work or study visa, a family route, or the international remote-work residence. The visa comes from a Spanish consulate in the UK; the TIE follows on Tenerife, with fingerprints first and a collection later.
Second-home owners have the simplest situation and the strictest limit: a NIE for the property, requested with form EX-15, and stays counted under the Schengen rule of 90 days in any 180.
Whatever your case, keep the paperwork from before and after the move in one place: padrón certificates, contracts, tax returns. In Spanish administration, the document you did not keep is the one you are asked for.
For the wider move, from visas to housing, relocation to Tenerife with AnchorLess covers what surrounds the number.
